Plant based funny guy

I love making people laugh and I love being vegan. Now I’m trying to do both at the same time.

Vegan Smythe

Who is this Vegan Smythe?

Hi, I’m Brenton Edgecombe, the creator of Vegan Smythe. I live in Adelaide, South Australia and have had a long career in music and entertainment. I started as a classical violinist, playing with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, and then moved to Sydney where I was flung into comedy-variety entertainment as one half of multi-award-winning double act String Fever.

When I unexpectedly became vegan in 2012 I wanted to use my skills to spread the word about animal rights and so Vegan Smythe was born. My original idea was to write a show for the 2012 Melbourne Fringe. Working title: Vegan Smythe, Superstar! When this didn’t quite get off the ground I started making YouTube song-videos which got a little bit of attention. I was shocked when one of my videos went semi-viral, with about 150,000 YouTube views and as many again on Facebook. I was even invited to perform at VegFest UK, London. That was a blast!

My 60 minute comedy cabaret ‘DON’T SHOOT! I’m a vegan’ had sold-out performances and received four and five star reviews in the mainstream media at it’s debut season in the 2020 Adelaide Fringe (the world’s second-largest fringe festival), with tracks recorded at String Fever Studio.  I’ve also been named Vegan Entertainer of the Year by vegansarecool.com made the cover of Vegan NZ magazine and become a chapter of an Amazon best-selling book called Plant Powered Men.

If you’d like to read more about me you may be suffering from Digital Distraction Disorder. However, there is more biographical stuff here.
